At any given time after being on his own, James has 1 to 4 dogs.

In the earliest stages, he has Snuffles, whom he adopts as a very tiny pup and often carries around at his side (sometimes in pockets, to the despair of those who buy him sweaters and jackets). Being a Rottweiler, Snuffles does not stay small long, but remains a highly socialized gentle giant for the remainder of time.

After a few years on his own, Adil & Devi join the pack. They're both already half-grown Norwegian Lundehunds and refuse to be adopted separately from the rescue--so, naturally, both come with James. Once they settle into their forever-home, and once they're used to Snuffles, they both very much spring to life with the ridiculous high energy such dogs are wont to.

Finally, when the 'twins' are settled in, James accidentally falls in love with a mutt at the rescue he's assured won't get too big. Thankfully, The Notorious D.I.G. (a/k/a Diggie Smalls) does in fact stay tiny (if ridiculously fluffy) even when eventually full grown.
